Biologicals

So I have a post about being adopted and how people think it’s a negative thing. Not true, in fact my sister said in her kindergarten class to all her friends, “My mom got to pick me, your mom was stuck with you!” So I thought I would let you know about my experience first and in future posts expand on the idea.

I was adopted and around 12 years ago I found my biological parents. I had a friend and former work partner give me a birthday present, which was a blanket letter to all of the people with my last name (birth name). The way I found out my last name was applying to the adoption registry. The deal is both parties need to apply and once that is done information can be shared, I found out my birth parents occupations, medical history, there likes and dislikes, even the grandparents information and most importantly there names.

After I had there names I was a little apprehensive, who knew who these people were, what they were doing now. I wasn’t sure what the next step was. So when my copywriter asked me what I wanted for my birthday I said find my biological parents and so the letter was sent, like a bandaid quick and fast before you have time to think about it.

Well my birthday is on the 15th of December and by New Years I had gotten a phone call from my friend saying “I found them!” Oh shit.

You never know what to expect at a moment like that and you don’t realize it at the time but it will change your life forever. I talked with my biological father and asked him “So where is my biological mother?” and he says “She’s sitting right here.” I was kind of confused because I assumed because they gave me up they didn’t stay together, well in the next five minutes I found out not only did they stay together but I had a brother and a sister. Insert sound of mind blowing here!

It has been a great ride ever since, I have doubled the size of my family with all of the perks to go with it. Mucho love. I couldn’t have been luckier. I will divulge more in upcoming posts but lets just say it has been interesting, great, amazing, tragic, telling and a growing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. More to come in future posts.
